Anti-Soviet Partisans' Memorial - Pomnik Żołnierzy Niezłomnych

The site, once a degraded WWII ruin, was transformed into a square for a monument honouring anti-Soviet partisans. Nine life-size glass sculptures of soldiers, encased in glass cuboids, form the centrepiece. Granite blocks symbolise war-ruined homes, while native plants recreate forest-meadow landscapes reflecting the partisans' environments. A mix of reclaimed paving stones, organic paths, and layered greenery fosters intimacy and contemplation. Illuminated at night, the monument alternates between highlighting and obscuring the soldiers' silhouettes. Silver birch (Betula pendula) trees, symbolising fallen partisans, were planted near the sculptures. This harmonious design won the 2024 CODA award for Public Space and People’s Choice.
